Pittsford, N.Y.—A 19-2 Bomber run broke open a close game and sent Ithaca to a 73-55 win over St. John Fisher (6-5, 3-3 Empire 8) Saturday afternoon. The Bombers (9-5, 4-0 Empire 8) were led in scoring by senior Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) with 18 points. She shot better than 63% in the win. Junior Jen DeBiasse (Chatham/Chatham, N.J.) and sophomore Jessica Farley (Pine Valley Central/South Dayton) added 16 and 15 points, respectively. Both figures were career highs.
Ithaca's big run came after a Fisher basket pulled the score to 37-35 with 15 minutes to play in the game. A free throw from junior Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) was the first of 10 straight Bomber points that gave Ithaca its first double-digit lead of the afternoon. Klie scored four of the 10 points, with Bixby contributing the other six.
Bixby was 7-of-11 from the field in the game, including 2-of-3 on three-point attempts. She also picked up six assists and three steals.
In the second half, Bixby missed just one shot in six attempts and scored 11 points. DeBiasse was also 5-of-6; she scored 13 in the half.
The Bombers went down by scores of 8-1 and 12-4 to open the game, with junior Jordan Confessore (South Brunswick/Kendall Park, N.J.) tying the score at 18 on a layup. The Bombers took their first lead of the game at 23-22 on a layup from Farley. With eight points, she led Ithaca in first half scoring.
The Cardinals retook the lead on a layup before a Farley free throw even the score at 24. The Bombers scored five straight points to take their biggest lead of the half before a St. John Fisher basket in the closing seconds of the period brought the score to 29-26 entering halftime.
Sophomore Blaire Moldenhauer (Albany R III/Albany, Mo.) led all players in rebounds, grabbing eight boards. She paces the Bombers with 6.6 rebounds per game on the season.
Ithaca returns to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. matchup with Utica. With a 4-0 Empire 8 record, the Pioneers join the Bombers as the only team with a perfect record in conference play.
