ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior guard Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 17 points to lead the Ithaca women's basketball team (8-4, 3-0 Empire 8) to a 68-59 win over visiting Nazareth (7-5, 2-4 Empire 8) Friday night.
Bixby raised her career total to 1,088 points to move into eighth on the program's all-time list. She added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Senior guard Lindsay Brown (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) added 14 points and junior forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) recorded 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. Klie's three blocks give her a career total of 61, matching Ithaca's seventh-highest total.
The Bombers pushed their five-point halftime lead to as many as 13 (55-42 7:58 into the second half) before nine straight Golden Flyer points pulled Nazareth to four points (55-51) with 7:20 left to play. Ithaca held the Golden Flyers to two baskets over the game's last 6:20 and hit six of their final seven free-throw attempts.
Junior forward Blaire Moldenhauer (Albany R III/Albany, Mo.) added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds off the bench. Ithaca outrebounded Nazareth 43-29 and shot over 50 percent from the floor (27 of 53, 50.9 percent) while holding Nazareth to 33.3 percent shooting (21 of 63).
The Bombers, who have won 12 straight over Nazareth, are now 123-19 since 2000 when holding their opponent under 60 points.
Ithaca continues Empire 8 play Saturday, playing a 2 p.m. game at St. John Fisher.
