Women's Basketball Remains Unbeaten in E8, Beats Stevens

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's basketball team (12-4) improved its conference record to a perfect 7-0 with a 62-59 win over Stevens Institute of Technology (8-6, 6-2 Empire 8) Saturday afternoon at Ben Light Gymnasium. The Bombers had three players score in double figures in a balanced scoring attack, paced by junior forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) with 12 points. Senior guards Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) and Lindsay Brown (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) scored 11 points each.

Bixby's final two points came with 8.3 seconds remaining when she made both ends of a 1-and-1 free-throw opportunity to give the Bombers a three-point advantage. A game-tying shot attempt by Stevens hit all backboard in the closing seconds.

The Bombers blocked five shots in the game, led by Klie's three rejections, and freshman forward Devin Shea (St. Basil Academy/Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) had the other two. Ithaca held Stevens to just 34.8 percent field-goal shooting in the game. Ithaca made seven 3-pointers in the contest, led by Brown who was 3-for-8 from behind the arc. Klie had a team-high nine rebounds.

Ithaca trailed 44-41 with 14 minutes remaining in the second half but used a 16-4 run to build a nine-point lead, its largest of the game, and held on for the victory.

The Bombers continue this homestand Tuesday when they host Rochester Institute of Technology at 6 p.m.
