ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Empire 8-leading women's basketball team (11-4, 6-0 Empire 8) stifled visiting Alfred (6-7, 1-4 Empire 8) Friday, winning 67-33. The Bombers held the Saxons to the lowest point total by an Ithaca opponent in eight years.
Senior guard Lindsay Brown (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) scored 14 points to lead Ithaca. Junior guard Jordan Confessore (South Brunswick/Kendall Park, N.J.) added 13 points, three steals and a team-best eight rebounds.
Junior forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) contributed 10 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists. Her team-leading six steals matched career-high. Senior guard Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) scored nine points and picked up six assists and five rebounds.
The Bombers harassed Alfred into shooting 20.7 percent from the floor (12 of 58); the Saxons missed 10 of their first 11 shots over the game's opening nine minutes.
Ithaca scored 19 of the final 20 points to close the game, keeping Alfred from making a basket over the last 9:09. The last time the Bombers held an opponent below 33 points was Jan. 12, 2002, when Alfred scored 32 points.
The Bombers' win raised their all-time record against the Saxons to 37-4; they've won 26 straight over Alfred dating back to 1993.
Ithaca continues its four-game homestand Saturday, hosting Stevens at 2 p.m.
