ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's soccer team (3-1-0, 1-0-0 Empire 8) scored twice in the first half and went on to a 2-0 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology (0-2-2, 0-1-0 Empire 8) Saturday at Carp Wood Field. Freshman midfielder Julie Winn (Sutton/Sutton, Mass.) scored her first career goal.
The Bombers took the lead in the 24th minute on a headed goal by graduate student midfielder Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Centre) from six yards out in front of goal. The pass was crossed from a corner kick on the right side by senior midfielder Emily Mogk (Bozeman/Bozeman, Mont.). It was Koppel's third goal of the season.
Winn's goal came in the 39th minute on a shot from the right side from approximately 25 yards out. It was unassisted.
Ithaca junior goalkeeper Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) played the first half and made one save. Junior keeper Jessica Platt (Monument Mountain/New Marlborough, Mass.) played the second half and made one save. Ithaca outshot RIT 26-4 in the game.
The Bombers return to action Wednesday at Elmira at 4 p.m.
