ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's soccer team (1-1-2) played to its second scoreless tie in four games and posted its third shutout of the year in a 0-0 tie with Hamilton (0-1-1) Saturday at Carp Wood Field. Junior goalkeeper Justin Parlapiano (Stafford/Stafford Springs, Conn.) posted his third shutout of the year.
The Bombers have allowed just one goal in their first four games.
Ithaca nearly won the game with 59 seconds remaining in the second overtime period when junior forward Fernando Casanova (Loyola/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) chipped Hamilton's goalkeeper but the ball hit the left post and rebounded along the goal line before the keeper scooped it up.
Ithaca's best scoring opportunity of the second half came when senior midfielder Chris Havis (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) ran on to a loose ball and headed it over the charging Hamilton keeper, but the shot went wide of the left post. Senior midfielder Gerard Lewis (Scotia-Glenville/Scotia) also found space in the penalty area and narrowly missed with a low shot wide of the right post.
Parlapiano made eight saves in the game. Ithaca held a 24-17 advantage in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bombers return to action Tuesday at Cortland at 7 p.m.
