Women's Lacrosse Team Loses At Utica

Courtney Dowell made nine saves.

Utica, N.Y. -- The women's lacrosse team (4-4, 1-2 Empire 8) lost 14-12 at Utica Sunday. Junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) each scored three goals for the Bombers.

Ithaca scored three of the game's first four goals, and held a lead as three goals at 6-3. The team took a 7-6 advantage into halftime.

Seven Pioneer goals to open the second half gave Utica a 13-7 lead with 15 minutes to play in the game. Three straight Bomber scores, including a pair from McClure, pulled Ithaca within three, but they could get no closer in the contest.

McClure added an assist and two draw controls to her three goals. Senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) also had a team-high four points. She scored one goal and picked up three assists. Freshman Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) added a goal and two assists, while freshman Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) netted a pair of goals.

Sophomore Abby Peterson (Mount Mansfield Union/Underhill, Vt.) led all players with five ground balls and five caused turnovers.

The Bombers return to action Friday with a game against Nazareth. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. at Carp Wood Field.
