ITHACA, N.Y.--The Bombers allowed a goal with once second left to play in regulation to fall 10-9 to Rochester (8-8) Tuesday evening. Sophomore Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) scored five times in the game for Ithaca (7-9), giving her 55 scores on the season. She matched the third-highest total in program history.
Hurley nearly scored a sixth goal seconds to play, but Rochester made a save on her shot, which would have given the Bombers the lead. The Yellowjackets scored the game-winner on the ensuing possession.
Ithaca jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game, with Hurley scoring twice and juniors Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Colombus, Ohio) and Lauren Fitzgerald (William H Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) each notching a goal. Rochester scored the next four goals, and closed the half down 6-5.
The Yellowjackets scored three of first four second half goals to take the lead at 8-7, before a Hurley goal tied the game. After another Rochester score, sophomore Emily Finn (Bishop-Brady/Concord, N.H.) retied the score on a pass from senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.).
Junior Courtney Dowell (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) made five saves for the Bombers.
Bedard has 40 assists on the season, extending her school-record career total to 121. She ranks fourth in points with 187.
Hurley's 55 goals matched Kim Medla's 2008 total as the third-most for any Bomber. She and McClure (42 goals) combined for the third-most goals by any pair of Ithaca teammates, the most since 1998.
