Ithaca Hammers Hartwick In Empire 8 Finale

ITHACA, N.Y.-- The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team closed out its Empire 8 regular season schedule with a 19-8 win over Hartwick (2-12, 0-7 Empire 8) on Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. The Bombers (7-8, 4-4 Empire 8) got goals from 11 different players in the win.

Senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) had a strong performance in the final Empire 8 contest of her career with eight points on two goals and six assists. Her 39 assists on the season are second most in Bomber history, trailing only the mark of 48 that she set last year.

Sophomore goals leader Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) scored four times and had an assist in the game's first 10:29 in which the Bombers built a 10-0 lead.

Junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Lauren Fitzgerald (William H. Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) each scored twice for Ithaca. McClure also added an assist.

Freshman Rachel Hardke (Cazenovia/Cazenovia) and Bailey Reagan (Cortland/Cortland) each scored the first two goals of their career in the win.

Four other Bombers also added a goal in the effort. Sophomores Ali DeCirce (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Emily Finn (Bishop-Brady/Concord, N.H.) and freshmen Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) and Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) all scored first half goals and sophomore Rachel Maley (Newtown/Sandy Hook, Conn.) scored in the second half.

Sophomore Melanie Braun (Webster-Thomas/Webster) led the Bomber defense with four draw controls and three ground balls. In goal, junior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) made one save to earn the win and senior Heidi Puccio (W. Tresper Clark/Westbury) recorded three.

Ithaca concludes the regular season on Tuesday as it hosts the University of Rochester at 5:00 p.m. at Carp Wood Field.
