Women's Lacrosse Team Falls To #14 Herons

Bedard is averaging 3.0 assists per game.

Geneva, N.Y.--The Bombers (6-8) fell to William Smith Tuesday evening, falling 19-10 to the 14th-ranked Herons. Senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored a goal and tallied three assists to lead the Ithaca attack, with juniorLauren Fitzgerald (William H. Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) scored a team-leading three goals.

Fitzgerald opened the game's scoring finding the net four minutes into the game. The Bombers held a lead in the game with under four minutes to play in the first half. A goal from junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio), assisted on by Bedard, gave Ithaca a 5-4 lead and capped a 4-1 Bomber run.

The Herons proceeded to score three times in the final minutes of the half to take the lead, and scored six unanswered goals in the second period to put the game out of hand.The Bombers did not get withing six scores for the remainder of the contest.

McClure joined Fitzgerald as multiple-goal scorer, notching a pair of goals. She also led the Bombers with six ground balls.

Bedard and junior Kassie Garfield (The Wheeler School/Cuttyhunk Island, Mass.) each caused three turnovers. Junior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) made 14 saves in goal.

The Bombers conclude their Empire 8 schedule Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Hartwick.
