Alfred, N.Y.--The Bombers (6-7, 3-4 Empire 8) dropped Alfred (4-6, 1-6 Empire 8) Sunday, winning 19-5. Ithaca outscored the Saxons 10-3 in the first half and 9-2 in the second. Junior Lauren Fitzgerald (William H. Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) scored a career-high five goals in the win.
Ithaca took early control of the contest, scoring twice in first 2:09 of play and notching six of the games first eight goals. Up 6-3 with nine minutes to play in the half, the Bombers blew open the game with a run of six unanswered goals that extended into the second half. Junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Honeoye Falls-Lima) each scored twice in the 6-0 run.
McClure, Hurley and sophomore Emily Finn (Bishop-Brady/Concord, N.H.) each found the net three times in the game. Finn's three goals tied her career high, set earlier in the season against Wells, and came in a span of six minutes in the second half. Senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) picked up three assists, giving her 174 career points. She moved into sole possession of third place on Ithaca's career points leaderboard.
Sophomore Ali DeCirce (Binghamton/Binghamtom) tallied a goal and two assists in the game. Sophomore Rachel Maley (Newtown/Sandy Hook, Conn.) and freshman Nicole Bornisenok (Watervliet/Albany Academy for Girls) each registered a goal and an assist. In total, nine Bombers scored a goal and seven notched an assist.
Ten Bombers caused a turnover, including McClure and Borisenok who each caused a pair and freshman Abby Peterson (Mount Mansfield Union/Underhill, Vt.) who forced a game-high three. McClure led all players with six ground balls.
Junior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) picked up four saves en route to her sixth win of the season. She also grabbed a ground ball and caused a turnover.
Ithaca returns to action Tuesday, with a 4 p.m. game at No. 16 William Smith.
