ITHACA, N.Y.— Freshman Nicole Borisenok (Watervliet/Albany Academy for Girls) scored her 11th goal of the season with just 1:53 remaining to break a 12-12 tie and spur the Bombers (3-2) to a 13-12 upset victory over #14 Cortland (2-4). The Red Dragons have not won at Ithaca's Carp Wood Field since 2001.
The Bombers opened a 4-0 lead in the game's first seven minutes, and were able to possess the ball for the last minute of the game to hold on for the one-goal victory.
Junior goalie Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) made six second-half saves and a career-high total of 12 to earn her third win of the season. She also scooped up three ground balls.
Junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) led the Bomber offense with five goals including three in the first half. She is now third on the team with 10 goals.
Ithaca's leading scorer, Catherine Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls), scored three goals and assisted on a first-half goal by junior Kassie Garfield (The Wheeler School/Cuttyhunk Island, Mass.),who now has seven goals and has scored in every game.
Senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded two goals and her team-leading 13th assist. She now has 151 career points and is the 10th player in Ithaca history to register 150 points.
Sophomore Rachel Maley (Newtown/Sandy Hook, Conn.) tallied her second goal of the season
The Bombers will open conference play on Wednesday as they host Elmira at 4:30 p.m. at Carp Wood Field. Ithaca was picked first in the Empire 8 in the preseason coaches' poll.
