Bombers Defeated by Buffalo State

Kassie Garfield has scored a goal in every game this season.

ITHACA, N.Y.--The women's lacrosse team (2-2) lost to Buffalo State Thursday evening, falling 17-12 at Cornell's Schoellkopf Field. Sophomore Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) had a team-leading five goals, with junior Lauren Fitzgerald (William H. Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) adding three.

The Bombers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first eight minutes of play, with Hurley notching three straight goals in the run. Fitzgerald and junior Sarah Cox (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) chipped in one apiece. The Bengals scored eight in the next nine goals to take an 8-6 lead. The Bombers came back with two straight goals—one each from Fitzgerald and Hurley—to tie the score, and they went into halftime down by one at 9-8.

Buffalo State opened the second half with five unanswered goals from four different players. A run of three Ithaca goals pulled the score to 14-11, but the Bombers could get no closer.

Junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) joined Hurley and Fitzgerald with a multi-goal game, scoring twice. Senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) picked up three assists, extending her school-record career total to 93.

Fitzgerald led all players with four ground balls. Bedard and Emily Finn (Bishop-Brady/Concord, N.H.) each picked up three.

Junior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) recorded seven saves in goal.

The Bombers return to the field March 28, with a 1 p.m. home game against Cortland.
