West Palm Beach, Fla.—The Bombers matched their season-high in goals scored en route to a 19-7 victory over Vassar (2-1) on Friday afternoon. Six players scored multiple goals for Ithaca (2-1), including sophomore Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls), who notched a career-high five.
Vassar scored two of the game's first three goals, but the Bombers responded with the next three. Another Brewer goal cut the lead to 4-3 seven minutes into the first half. The teams would never be as close again, with Ithaca scoring 10 unanswered goals, keeping Vassar off the scoreboard for more than 21 minutes of play.
Senior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored all three of her goals in the run, with Hurley and junior Lauren Fitzgerald (William H. Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) each chipping in two.
A Brewer goal with 21 minutes to play ended Ithaca's dominant run, but the Bombers closed the game on a 5-4 run.
Junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Colombus, Ohio) joined Bedard and Fitzgerald as a three-goal scorer. Junior Sarah Cox (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) and freshman Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) each notched a pair of scores.
Junior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) made 10 saves to pick up the win in goal.
The Bombers next game is their home opener, a 4 p.m. matchup with Buffalo State Thursday.
