ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior guard Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a career-high 28 points and became the 10th Bomber to reach 1,000 career points in Ithaca's 60-55 loss to visiting Cortland (3-1) Tuesday. The Bombers, who had won three of four, fall to 3-3 on the season.
The Red Dragons rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final 12 minutes, pulling even at 42-42 with 6:52 left then hitting eight of their next nine free-throw attempts to spark a 16-8 run. Bixby connected on a three-point basket – which raised her career total to 1,000 points – with 4:35 to go that pulled the Bombers to within three points and hit a free throw that closed the gap to two 93 seconds later but Ithaca got no closer.
Bixby finished the night with 1,003 points; she ranks 10th all-time in career scoring at Ithaca and is the fifth Bomber to reach 1,000 under Coach Dan Raymond. She added three rebounds, two assists and a team-leading four steals.
Senior guard Lindsay Brown (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) added 10 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) led Ithaca with 10 rebounds.
The Bombers conclude their three-game homestand Friday, hosting Hartwick to open Empire 8 play.
