Volleyball Claims ECAC Title

Corinna Doctor tallied 113 assists in the ECAC tournament

Elmira, N.Y.--With a win over Elmira in the tournament final, Ithaca earned the 2009 ECAC Upstate/Metro Women's Volleyball Championship. The Bombers (26-17) defeated the Soaring Eagles (17-12) 17-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17. The ECAC title was the fourth in program history, and the third under current head coach Janet Donovan. The Bombers had previously won in 1992, 1993 and 2007. Senior Corinna Doctor (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Doctor had 40 assists in the win. She ends her career as Ithaca's all-time leader in assists (5,613) and aces (288). She also ranks sixth with 1,505 digs.

Sophomore Kate Thoene (Voorhees/High Bridge, N.J.) had 13 kills and eight blocks, leading the team in both categories. Classmate Chelsea Hayes (Haworth/Northern Valley Regional) also had 13 kills.

Senior Rachel Busch (Hoover/North Canton, Ohio) added 12 kills. She tallied 1,077 in her career.
