Hoboken, N.J. – The women's basketball team (11-5, 7-0 Empire 8) won its seventh straight game Sunday, rallying from a 14-point halftime deficit to beat the host Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks (14-3, 6-2) 49-47. Ithaca closed the game on a 27-11 run to take a two-game lead atop the Empire 8 standings. Junior guard #Lindsay Brown# (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) scored the winning basket on a lay-up with 57.4 seconds left to give the Bombers their first lead since scoring the game's opening points 13 seconds in. The Ducks, who were listed among teams receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com poll, had not lost a conference game at home since Jan. 24, 2007, and had never lost a conference game at home since joining the Empire 8.
Brown finished with eight points and a career-best seven rebounds. Junior guard Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) came up with a steal on Stevens' next possession and converted a pair of free throws with 24.4 seconds remaining. The Ducks scored a basket with eight seconds left and a foul was called on the play but Bixby rebounded the missed free throw and made another free throw to provide the final margin. The Ducks missed a shot at the buzzer on their final possession.
Bixby finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. She raised her career total to 803 points, becoming the 15th Bomber to exceed 800. Sophomore forward Elissa Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) added 12 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Jeanine Burke (Bridgewater-Raritan/Raritan, N.J.) pulled down a team-best nine rebounds off the bench.
Ithaca recovered from a 20-14 halftime deficit following a first period that saw both teams shoot just 23.1 percent from the floor (including 8.7 precent from three-point range.
The Bombers continue Empire 8 play Friday, hosting Elmira at 6 p.m. at Ben Light Gymnasium.
