Fredonia, NY. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team (7-3) defeated Fredonia 187.5-112.5 and Nazareth 175-125 in a tri-meet Saturday at Fredonia. Nine different Bombers finished first in at least one event in the meet.
Senior Lauren Botterbusch (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.) and sophomore Becca Blazak (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.) tied for first in the 100-yard breaststroke with identical times of 1:08.69. Botterbusch also won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.21), placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.69) and was on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:51.76) with freshman Amanda Vitullo (Schalmont/Schenectady), junior Jen Heberton (Darien/Darien, Conn.) and sophomore Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden).
Rhoades was also on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:42.11) and won the 50 free (25.42) and 100 free (55.14). Heberton won the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.01). Vitullo was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.58.
Other winners in individual events for the Bombers were sophomore Maddie Kennedy (Head Royce/Alameda, Calif.) in the 200 free (1:59.58), freshman Missy Keesler (Union-Endicott/Endicott) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.96) and freshman Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Spring, Md.) in the 500 free (5:20.59). Murphy was also second in the 1,000 free in 11:07.70.
Sophomore Megan Stover (Pennridge/Perkasie, Pa.) placed third in the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 195.10 and junior Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) finished fourth on the 1-meter diving board with 193.55 points.
Kennedy, sophomore Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Heberton joined Rhoades on the winning 200 free relay team. Sophomore Julie Erhart (Mount St. Joseph/Wilmington, Del.) was second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:22.84.
Ithaca hosts Rochester at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hill Center Pool.
