Men's Soccer Defeats Cortland

Jeff Geyer leads the Bombers with three goals this season.
ITHACA, N.Y. - The men's soccer team improved to 4-1-0 with a 3-1 victory over Cortland (2-2-1) Tuesday evening. Three first-half goals for the Bombers helped them remain unbeaten on Carp Wood Field this season.

Cortland opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but the Bombers scored three times in a span of 21 minutes to take control of the game. Senior forward Kurt Odenbach (McQuaid Jesuit/Webster) scored his second goal of the season in the 15th minute to pull the Bombers level. Odenbach received a cross from senior forward John Tarson (Philips Academy/Acton, Mass.) and headed the ball into the far corner.

Ithaca took the lead for good in the 34th minute when sophomore midfielder Matt Baluzy (Franklin Delano Roosevelt/Salt Point) scored off of a long throw-in from junior Michael Jordhamo (Arlington/Hopewell Junction). Two minutes later, the Bombers added a third goal when junior forward Jeff South (Aptos/Aptos, Calif.) assisted sophomore midfielder Jeff Geyer (Rham/Hebron, Conn.) with a back heel pass at the top of the penalty area. Geyer chipped the ball into the top-right corner of the net to give the Bombers a two-goal lead.

The Bomber offense did not relent in the second half. Ithaca outshot the Red Dragons 11-3 in the half and 21-10 in the game. Senior goalkeeper Andy Wilhelm (Centennial/Ellicott City, Md.) saved three shots.

The Bombers host Rensselaer Saturday at 3 p.m.
