Hamilton Hands Men’s Soccer First Defeat in Two Overtimes

Junior midfielder Chris Havis scored his first goal of the season Saturday
Clinton, N.Y.—The men's soccer team (3-1-0) lost its first game of the season to Hamilton (3-0-0) in two overtimes on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, junior midfielder Chris Havis (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead on a goal scored off a free kick in the 49th minute. The goal was Havis's first of the year, giving him four points on the season. Hamilton tied the game in the 63rd minute on a goal scored on a rebound after senior goalkeeper Andy Wilhelm (Centennial/Ellicott City, Md.) made the initial save.

There were no shots taken in the first overtime period. In the second overtime period, the Bombers took three shots, but could not convert. Wilhelm made two saves in the second overtime, giving him nine saves on the day. The game-winning goal was scored with under two minutes left in the game.

The Bombers were out-shot 15-14 in the game, but led in corner kicks 8-3. This was Ithaca's second consecutive overtime game. The Bombers defeated Geneseo 2-1 on Wednesday.

The Bombers look to start a new winning streak on Tuesday when they host the Cortland Red Dragons. The game will begin at 4 p.m. at Carp Wood Field.
