Men's Soccer Rallies to Beat Geneseo in Overtime

Jeff Geyer Nets Game-Winning Goal

Jeff Geyer's overtime goal was the first game winner of his career.

ITHACA, N.Y.-- Sophomore Jeff Geyer (Rham/Hebron, Conn.)scored in the second overtime to complete a 2-1 Ithaca victory over Geneseo Wednesday evening. The goal came with under four minutes to play in the period, and preserved the Bombers' perfect record at 3-0-0. With the loss, the Blue Knights fall to 2-3-0.

Ithaca dominated both overtime periods, outshooting Geneseo 6-1 in extra time. With 3:25 remaining to play, the ball kicked out to Geyer following a scrum in front of the Blue Knight net. The midfielder took an open shot from just outside the box, chipping the ball into the extreme top right corner of the net and just past the leaping Geneseo goalkeeper. The score was the second of the season for Geyer.

The Blue Knights had scored first in the contest, netting their goal halfway into the first period. Though the Bombers were in frequent control of the ball and had peppered the Geneseo defense with seven shots, the team could not break through and tie the score until less than 20 minutes remained in regulation. With 17:08 left to play, a Geneseo foul set up an Ithaca free kick. Taking the kick for the Bombers, senior Jason Kaufman (Wilbraham-Monson Academy/Leverett, Mass.) sent the ball on a low line drive into the right side of the goal. Kaufman has two goals on the season.

The Bomber defense played well in the contest, controlling the tempo of the game for much of its duration. They held the Blue Knights to only eight shots in more than 100 minutes of play. Senior goalkeeper Andy Wilhelm (Centennial/Elicott City, Md.) picked up three saves in his third win of the year. He has allowed just one goal this season.
