Seniors Lead Bombers to Overtime Win Over Stevens

John Tarson scored his third goal of the season.
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's soccer team (9-2-3, 4-0-2 Empire 8) won 2-1 over Stevens Institute of Technology (15-2-2, 4-1-1) in overtime Saturday. Ithaca is now the only unbeaten team in the Empire 8. The Bombers are the first team to beat Stevens in Empire 8 play, snapping the Ducks' 54-game unbeaten streak in conference play. The win clinches a home semifinal game in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament for Ithaca, who'll secure the tournament's top seed with a win or tie over Elmira.

Senior forward John Tarson (Philips Academy/Acton, Mass.) scored his third goal of the season in the first half. Senior midfielder Jason Kaufman (Wilbraham-Monson Academy/Leverett, Mass.) passed Tarson the ball from the left side of the goal. Kaufman now has two assists.

With 41 seconds left in the overtime period, senior forward Kurt Odenbach (McQuaid Jesuit/Webster) scored the game-winner after the Stevens goalie could not collect the ball in front of the net following a long shot from Kaufman. Odenbach now leads the team with five goals. With 59 career points, Odenbach moved into a tie for eighth in program history.

Senior goalkeeper Andy Wilhelm (Centennial/Ellicott City, Md.) made four saves in the win.

The Bombers play Tuesday at Brockport at 3:30 p.m.
