All-Around Performance Pushes Bombers Past Oneonta

Christine Franz had a goal and an assist in Ithaca's win over Oneonta.
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca field hockey team (3-5) defeated Oneonta (4-6) 3-1 at home on Wednesday. The Bombers are now 3-1 this year at Yavits Field.

Ithaca started the game off quickly. Sophomore Katherine Brown (Akron/Akron) scored the first goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Christine Franz (West Windsor-Plainsboro/Plainsboro, N.J.) in the first minute of play. The Bombers continued their attack with a goal by senior Elyse Green (Shawnee/Medford, N.J.) from close range in the eighth minute. Brown recorded the assist.

Franz extended the Bomber lead with a goal in the second half off an assist from junior Caitlin Harte (Red Hook/Clermont). The assist was Harte's first point of the season. Oneonta scored late in the half after a scramble in front of the net.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) started for the first time this year and earned her first victory with seven saves. The Bomber defense held up well against 18 penalty corners for Oneonta, and sophomores Mia Muzio (Rockport/Rockport, Mass.) and Key Fox (Hunterdon Central/Solebury, Pa.) each had one defensive save in the first half. Muzio leads the Bombers with three defensive saves this season.

The Bombers travel to Stevens Institute of Technology Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest.
