ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory at Higgins Stadium on Sunday against nationally ranked No. 21 Haverford College .
IC struck first within the opening two minutes of the contest as
Brooke Snider sent a pass from just outside the circle to the doorstep of the goal, where
Toni Ierardi was waiting for the tip in to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead with 13:25 remaining in the quarter.
From there, Haverford took control of possession and registered six shots with two corners, but all five that were on target were saved by
Maeve Clark.
The Bomber defense continued to stand strong in the second quarter as the Ford maintained their offensive pressure and held possession for most of the 15 minutes. Haverford took two more shots and earned two more corners, but IC kept the Fords from finding the back of the net and went into halftime still ahead, 1-0.
IC earned its first corner of the game with 2:40 left in the third quarter and made the most of the chance as
Audrey McMahon sent the insert to
Abby Hennessy and she found Snider for a wide open shot to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead.
Haverford countered with an offensive attack a minute later with a corner, but both shots off the attempt were saved by Clark to raise her total to nine heading to the fourth quarter.
The Fords put together one final push to get on the board in the final two minutes of the contest, but as was the case all day, Clark stopped every shot on target and
Amelia MacDonald made a defensive save to give the Bombers a 2-0 victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
Clark made 12 saves in the win as Ithaca was outshot, 19-2, and corners were 9-1 in favor of the Fords.
The Bombers will travel to Cortland on Wednesday, September 9 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
