Men's Soccer Falls to Cortland, 2-1 in 2 Overtimes

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's soccer team fell to Cortland, 2-1 in two overtimes.

After a scoreless first half, the Red Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. Ithaca was able to tie the game in the 86th minute when sophomore Ryan Cole (Liverpool/Bishop Ludden) scored his third goal of the season.

Both teams had chances in overtime to win the game. The Bombers were able to fire off seven shots while Cortland had three shots in the extra sessions. In the second overtime, Cortland was awarded a penalty shot with only 27 seconds remaining. Cortland sophomore Eric Reinhardt was able to convert for his second goal of the game and the victory for the Red Dragons.

Ithaca outshot Cortland 18-11 in the game. Sophomore Eric Ferguson (East Greenbush/Columbia) made three saves for the Bombers.

Ithaca, which entered the game ranked fourth in the NSCAA Northeast Regional poll, falls to 1-2-0 on the season. The Bombers host Brockport on Tuesday, September 13. The home-opener for Ithaca will begin at 4 p.m.
