MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Ithaca College wrestling team will vie for national championship invitations this weekend at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Northeast Regional hosted by Wesleyan University. Wrestling will take place Saturday and Sunday with the top three finishers in each weight class advancing to the NCAA Division III Championships March 14-15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Wrestling begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Ithaca's entries into the regional include returning all-American
Alex Gomez and 2013 NCAA qualifier
Dominick Giacolone. Gomez placed sixth last year at 133 pounds and is wrestling in the same weight class this year. He is ranked fourth in the nation by the NWCA and has a 23-3 record. Giacolone is ranked fifth in the NWCA poll and has a 13-4 record.
Two other nationally-ranked wrestlers are entered into the regionals for the Bombers.
Kristopher Schimek is ranked second in the 165-pound weight class and has 21 consecutive victories and a 28-2 overall record.
Carlos Toribio is ranked 10th in the nation by the NWCA at 174 with a 20-5 record.
