ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team stands in first place after the first of four days of competition at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships and Empire 8 Championships meets. The Bombers totaled 282 points on the opening day, edging out Stevens Institute of Technology's second-place total of 251.
The first day was highlighted by a dominating performance in the 200-yard individual medley. Freshman
Grace Ayer earned the top spot, pacing the field with a time of 2:05.13. Ayer's time met the NCAA B qualifying standard and marked the second fastest in program history, falling just behind
Carly Jones' time of 2:04.86 set back in 2012. Teammate
Elizabeth Gawrys finished second, touching the wall in 2:09.40.
Freshman
Lake Duffy earned another individual top spot in the 50-yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 23.96. Duffy's time marked the third fastest 50-free in program history.
Freshman
Miranda Wingfield paced all Bombers in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing sixth with a time of 5:10.76. The Bombers took second in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of
Kylie Bangs,
Samantha Reilly, Gawrys and
Cassie Papaleo finished in a time of 1:47.89.
