No. 12 Ithaca Wrestling Rolls Past Nassau Community College 33-9

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The 12th-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team won eight of the 10 bouts and earned bonus points in five of them during a 33-9 win over Nassau Community College on Friday night at Ben Light Gymnasium. Ithaca improved to 8-3 in dual matches this season. Nassau is a two-time defending National Junior College Athletic Association champion and had three wrestlers in the lineup ranked by the NJCAA.

The Bombers started the dual with three straight victories to take a 13-0 lead. Jimmy Kaishian won by forfeit at 125. At 133 pounds, Alex Gomez scored a pair of first-period takedowns and an early escape and takedown in the second period. He went on to dominate riding time in a 10-1 major decision win. Nick Wahba got a first-period takedown and near-fall points to establish an early lead and went on to a 5-4 decision win at 141.

In the 157 pound match, Nassau's nationally-ranked Kyle Wade held a 1-0 advantage headed to the third period, but Kevin Collins got an escape and tied the score. He then got a takedown with 10 seconds left in the period in a 3-1 decision victory.

Kristopher Schimek also faced a nationally-ranked opponent at 165 and built a 9-3 lead after the first period. It was 9-6 headed into the third period and Schimek held on for a 10-8 decision victory to give the Bombers a 19-6 lead.

Dan Glinko won by pin at 184 to clinch the dual for the Bombers. The pin took place just 1:52 into the match. Shane Bartrum capped the dual with a win at heavyweight. He led 9-3 after two periods and went on to a major decision win by a 12-4 score.

Nassau won by pin at 149 and decision at 197 to accumulate their team points.

Ithaca returns to action at noon Saturday against Delaware Valley College.
