WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Ithaca College wrestling team suffered its first two dual-meet defeats of the season to wrap up action at the Budd Whitehill National Duals, hosted by Lycoming College. The 10th-ranked Bombers faced nationally-ranked opponents in both matches Saturday, and finished fourth overall in the prestigious tournament. The Bombers will return to Lycoming next weekend to compete in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships.

# 8 Cortland 19, #10 ITHACA 18

In the semifinals of the prestigious championship, Ithaca tied Cortland 18-18 after completion of the 10 bouts, but Cortland was awarded the tiebreaker criteria point by virtue of a win by pinfall at 141 pounds to earn a 19-18 victory.

Ithaca started strongly with all five of its victories coming in the first seven weight classes. Jimmy Kaishian won by decision and Alex Gomez followed with a major decision win at 133. Eamonn Gaffney scored a decision win at 149. Both Kristopher Schimek and Carlos Toribio won by major decision to give Ithaca an 18-9 lead, but Cortland took the final three bouts by decision to tie the dual-match score.

Ithaca faced its highest-ranked opponent to date this season and got victories from Alex Gomez, Kevin Collins, Kristopher Schimek and Shane Bartrum. The bonus point came at 133 pounds where Gomez won by major decision, defeating Micheal Gancer of Olivet 13-6.
