Ithaca Wrestling Goes 3-0, Moves To Semis At Whitehill National Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The Ithaca College wrestling team won three dual matches Friday at the Budd Whitehill National Duals hosted by Lycoming at Williamsport, Pa. The 10th-ranked Bombers improved to 7-0 in duals this season with a 45-2 victory over Case Western Reserve, a 31-12 win over Coast Guard and a 20-13 win over 23rd-ranked Heidelberg. Saturday's action resumes for Ithaca with a semifinal dual match against eighth-ranked Cortland at 10:30 a.m., followed by either the championship or third-place dual match against Olivet or Messiah.

#10 ITHACA 45, Case Western Reserve 2

The Bombers claimed victories in nine of the 10 weight classes, with the only setback coming in the opening bout of the dual. Following that, Ithaca rattled off nine wins in a row, including pins by Dominick Giacolone at 141, Kevin Collins at 157 and Carlos Toribio at 174. Alex Gomez won by technical fall at 133, and Kristopher Schimek won by major decision at 165. Ithaca won the final two bouts by forfeit, and Case Western Reserve had a team point deducted due to unsportsmanlike conduct.

The Bombers won eight of 10 bouts, and one of the defeats came by injury default in another convincing victory. Schimek won by pin at 165 pounds and Liam Korbul scored a major decision victory at 184.

#10 ITHACA 20, #23 Heidelberg 13

In a back-and-forth dual, Ithaca held off 23rd-ranked Heidelberg to wrap up Friday's action. Alex Gomez scored a major decision victory at 133 to tie the dual match, and Nick Wahba put Ithaca ahead with a win at 141 pounds. Ithaca seized control with three-straight wins in the middleweight classes as Collins, Schimek and Toribio all posted victories. Toribio's win was by major decision. After Heidelberg pulled the dual score to within 17-13, Shane Bartrum capped Ithaca's successful day with a win at 285.
