Palladino and Rossi Claim Top Honors at Senior Awards Banquet

ITHACA, N.Y. – Seniors Rachael Palladino and Sean Rossi were named female and male senior athletes of the year at the annual Ithaca College Athletics Senior Awards Luncheon Wednesday. Palladino is a three-time all-American in women's soccer who owns school records for all-time points and goals. Rossi, a point guard for the men's basketball team, set the NCAA Division III assists record and is a D3Hoops.com all-American.

Palladino received the Iris Carnell Senior Athlete of the Year Award, named after a former Ithaca coach and administrator who was the first female inductee into the Ithaca Athletic Hall of Fame. During her tenure, Palladino scored 149 points on 63 goals and 23 assists. Her assists rank fourth in program history. She earned all-region nods four times having been named to the second team as a freshman and the first team each year since. The forward was selected Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, junior and senior and was named the Rookie of the Year in 2009. She became the first in Empire 8 women's soccer history to earn the award three consecutive years. Palladino has been named to the All-Empire 8 First Team all four years of her career.

Rossi was presented with the Ben Light Senior Athlete of the Year Award, named after another former Ithaca coach and administrator and a charter member of the school's Hall of Fame. Earning D3Hoops.com All-East Region First-Team praise, Rossi set the NCAA Division III all-time assists record on Feb. 22. He amassed 957 career assists to rank eighth all-time across all divisions. Becoming the 23rd Bomber in program history to reach the 1,000-point threshold, Rossi has been named to the All-Empire 8 First Team during each of the last three seasons. He was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year in 2009-10 and was twice named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-East District Team.

The James K. Harris Memorial Award, named for an Ithaca graduate who participated in three sports and presented to the outstanding multi-sport student-athlete, was given to cross country and track & field student-athlete Jenn Randall. She ran cross country in 2009 and 2010 earning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year accolades and spots on the All-Empire 8 and All-NYSCTC teams. A mid-distance runner on the indoor and outdoor track & field teams for four years, Randall tallied all-America honors in the 2013 indoor mile run. She holds indoor school records in the mile and the 500-, 800- and 1,000-meter runs, as well as the 4x400 relay. Outdoors, she claimed the school record in the 1,500. Randall is a nine-time Empire 8 champion and a six-time NYSCTC champion.

The Robert C. Deming Leadership Award, named for the former Ithaca director of athletics and presented to the student-athlete who has been recognized for athletic ability, maintained high standards in the classroom and demonstrated outstanding leadership on campus and in the community, was given to women's lacrosse senior Tracy Rivas and men's basketball senior Andrei Oztemel. The pair served as co-presidents of Ithaca's Student-Athlete Advisory Council during 2012-13.

The Bernard Scholar-Athlete awards, named for former Ithaca faculty members Jack and Flo Bernard and presented to the male and female athletes with the highest cumulative seventh-semester grade-point average, were given to David Geary of men's cross country and track & field and Chelsea Robie of the gymnastics team. Awards for the male and female athletes with the highest cumulative seventh-semester grade-point average from each season: the fall sport recipients were Geary and Megan Palladino of the women's soccer team; the winter sport recipients were Matt Confer of the men's track & field team and Robie; the spring sport recipients were Mark Vorensky of the track & field team and Hannah Stafford of the women's crew team.

The winner of the Rodney H. Dusinberre Athletic Training Excellence Award, presented annually to the senior student athletic trainer who best exemplifies the qualities of hard work, commitment and loyalty to the Ithaca College athletic training program, was Meaghan McMillen.

The Mark Alderman Athletic Training Service Award, given to the senior athletic training student who displays service, kindness and compassion for others, was awarded to Caroline Lisee and women's basketball student-athlete Catherine Lewis.

John Wallace, who is retiring, was honored at the luncheon for his 20 years of service to Ithaca College. Wallace has served as the equipment manager and an assistant coach to several Bomber teams over the years.
