Ithaca Men's Cross Country Squad Places Ninth at NCAA Regionals

MT. MORRIS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's cross country squad raced to a ninth-place finish out of 39 teams Saturday at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship. The Bombers tallied 265 points in the race hosted by Geneseo at Letchworth State Park.

Six of Ithaca's top seven finishers clocked season-best times on the eight-kilometer course. The ninth-place finish was Ithaca's fourth top-10 finish in as many years.

Rookie Sean Phillips narrowly missed all-region honors with a 38th-place finish out of 275 runners with a time of 26:03.30.

Sophomore Sawyer Hitchcock followed in 51st, junior Dennis Ryan in 56th and sophomore Stephen Gomez in 57th. Hitchcock, who earned all-region honors a season ago, finished in 26:13.10, Ryan did so in 26:20.10 and Gomez in 26:21.00. Sophomore Larkin Bohanan placed 66th with a time of 26:30.00.

Rounding out the Bombers' top seven were junior Steve Derderian and senior Samuel Horwath. Derderian crossed the finish line in 27:10.80 and Horwath in 27:37.40.

The NCAA will announce its complete championship field Sunday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m.
