Bomber Cross Country Teams to Vie for NCAA Spots at Regionals Saturday

MT. MORRIS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's and women's cross country teams will compete on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships hosted by Geneseo at Letchworth State Park. The women's 6,000-meter race goes off at 11 a.m. and the men's 8,000 run follows at 12:30 p.m.

Additional information is available on the championships website.

The Bomber men's team won the regional meet in 2001 and has finished in the top five 15 times.

In 2012, the men's team ran to a seventh-place finish, recording 218 points, out of 44 teams at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship hosted by Rochester. The Bombers had three earn all-region accolades. Nathan Bickell led the way with a 15th-place finish of 25:57.40. Sawyer Hitchcock and David Geary each clocked career-best times. Hitchcock placed 25th in 26:05.40 and Geary followed in 30th with a time of 26:15.00. Bickell and Hitchcock placed well enough for individual invitations to the national meet.

The women's squad has won the meet on six occasions, most recently in 2001. The Bombers have 24 top-five finishes since 1982.

The women's cross country team placed fifth out of 39 teams in 2012 with 221 points en route to a team at-large invitation to the NCAA Championship. Alexa Rick earned all-region honors with a 24th-place finish out of 277 runners. She crossed the finish line in 22:41.70. Ithaca has placed at least one on the all-region team every year since 1983.

The top-two team finishers will automatically move on to next week's NCAA Division III National Championships in Hanover, Ind., while 16 other at-large bids will be awarded across the nation's eight total regions. The top-seven individual finishers from each region not on one of the team qualifiers will also qualify for the national championship.

The top 35 finishers earn all-region honors.
