ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team (8-15) dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-14) decision to Buffalo State (14-6) and a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17) setback to Plattsburgh (8-11) Saturday on day two of Nazareth's 2013 Purple & Gold Invitational in Kidera Gymnasium.

Abbie Hutchinson posted three blocks (1 solo, 2 assists). Buffalo State, who has won eight of its last nine contests, hit .307 for the match and served up nine aces.
In the first set both teams hit better than .350 with the Bengals coming out on top, 25-17. Buffalo State snapped a 5-5 deadlock with back-to-back points to go ahead indefinitely. Ithaca kept within striking distance, but the Bengals closed out the first with six unanswered for the win. They maintained their dominance in the second, opening with an 8-0 run. Garone's serve brought Ithaca within 8-4, though the Bengals pieced together another streak to secure a double-digit edge, 16-4, en route to a 25-13 final. Buffalo State claimed its fourth straight-set victory of the season after rewriting a 6-6 stalemate in the third. It used a 10-1 stretch to power to a 25-14 win.
In the day's second match, Schmidt and Chang put down seven kills each.

Plattsburgh broke a 7-7 tie with a 10-1 run to power to a first-set victory. Down 21-11, Ithaca battled to pull within 22-18, but the Cardinals rallied to score the final three to go ahead, 1-0. The Bombers took a 5-2 edge in the second. Plattsburgh responded to knot the set at 6, 7 and 8 before taking a 9-8 advantage, one that they never relinquished. The Cardinals used a 10-2 run to close out action, 25-16. Plattsburgh served its way to a 6-2 gap in the third. Ithaca countered to tie the game five times and went ahead 15-12. The Cardinals rode out match on a 13-2 run to take it in three.
The Bombers return to action Wednesday, Oct. 9 hosting local foe Cortland at 6 p.m.
