Biography

2008-09: Horwath returned to the NCAA Championships and earned all-America honors. He was a wild-card pick to nationals after taking second at the ECWC Championships. Horwath earned all-state recognition by taking fourth place at the New York State Championships. He opened the season by winning the Ithaca Invitational and finished the year with a team-leading 36 wins. Horwath, who took third at the Sunshine Open, was named ECWC Wrestler of the Week after completing a 15-0 dual-meet season with a win against Cortland.

2007-08: Horwath made his first trip to nationals after winning the ECWC title. He earned all-state honors with a fourth-place finish and won the 141-pound title at the Ithaca Invitational. Horwath took third at the Williamstown Invitational and matched the team’s best dual-meet record at 13-2. He capped Ithaca’s rally for a win over #19 Wilkes by winning the final bout 3-2 on riding time.

2006-07: Horwath was one of the team’s top newcomers, earning all-state accolades with a fourth-place finish at the NYS Championships. He also took fourth at the season-opening Ithaca Invitational and placed second at the JCC Open. Horwath ranked second on the team with 25 wins and 68 takedowns and was third with 70.5 points. He was named ECWC Rookie of the Week after a 5-1 week that included a one-point win over Division III’s fifth-ranked wrestler in the quarterfinals of the Budd Whitehill National Duals.

High School: A 2006 graduate of Liberty High School, Horwath was coached by Jody Karam. Horvath won District XI and Northeast Region titles and placed seventh in the state as a senior.

Personal: A recreation management major, he is the son of Michael Horvath.
