High School: Rice was a two-sport athlete at Spring-Ford, earning two varsity letters in football and three varsity letters in wrestling. On the football team, he was starting linebacker his junior and senior seasons, helping the team to a conference championship during his final season. He was named All-Area Honorable Mention as a junior and First Team All-Area and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. In wrestling, he was a two-time PAC-10 Champion in addition to being a two-time First Team All-Area and two-time All-Academic selection. He was District Champion and Regional Runner-Up as a senior, in addition to earning seventh place at the Pennsylvania State Championships. He was also a State Qualifier as a junior. Rice spent one season at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa., before transferring to Ithaca.

Personal: Steven is the son of Chris and Diane Rice.
