Kaley (Viola) Vogel begins her second season with the Ithaca College women's volleyball program in 2017.
In her first season as an assistant on head coach Johan Dulfer's staff, Vogel helped the Bombers to a 27-6 record, which included an Empire 8 Championship and trip to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. IC placed six All-Conference members, which included 2016 Empire 8 Player of the Year Joelle Goldstein. Vogel helped guide Goldstein and Amanda Cerruti to AVCA All-Region accolades, while Goldstein went on to AVCA Honorable Mention All-America and ECAC North All-Star honors.
Vogel came to Ithaca after a two-year stint at Division I Davidson College as an assistant and recruiting coordinator. Prior to Davidson, Vogel served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Winthrop University, in 2013, and helped guide the Eagles to a 17-13 overall record. From 2011 to 2013, she was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University.
Along with her collegiate coaching positions, Vogel has coached club teams and helped run various camps and clinics for the past eight years. In the summer of 2014, she volunteered with the U.S. National team in Anaheim, Calif.
As a student-athlete, Vogel was a four-year member of the Winthrop volleyball team from 2007-2010. She finished her career with 3,323 total attacks, which ranks her seventh all-time, 1,056 kills, 996 digs and 163 total blocks. She earned Big South second team all-conference honors in 2009 and 2010.
Vogel graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and in 2013 she earned her Master of Science degree in sport & fitness administration.
The youngest of three children, Vogel hails from an impressive athletic family. Her father, Frank Viola, was the 1987 World Series MVP for the Minnesota Twins, the 1988 American League Cy Young Award winner and a three-time MLB All-Star. Her mother, Kathy, is an avid equestrian, who breeds and trains horses. Her brother, Frank III, was drafted by the Chicago White Sox 2004 and most recently played in the Toronto Blue Jays organization in 2014. Kaley’s sister, Brittany, was an NCAA diving champion for Miami University (Fla.), and competed on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team.
She recently married her husband, Max Vogel, at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
