Biography
2004: Welch played in all 16 games with 15 starting assignments. He had 10 points on four goals and six assists along with collecting 43 ground balls. In a 14-6 win over Utica, Welch recorded a career-high five points, scoring two goals and a career-high three assists. He also scored goals in wins over RIT and Elmira. He contributed to an offense that ranked seventh nationally in scoring.
2003: Welch started 12 games. He recorded 12 points on five goals and seven assists, along with collecting 33 ground balls. He registered at least one point in Ithaca’s first seven games. He contributed to an offense that ranked third nationally in scoring.
2002: Welch started in eight of the 16 games he played in. He registered 13 points on nine goals and four assists and collected 46 ground balls. In a win over RIT, Welch scored a career-high four points on three goals and an assist.
High School: At Ithaca High School, Welch was a two-time team MVP and a three-year letter winner for coach Frank Welch. He earned first-team all-section honors his senior season and second-team honors his junior season.
Personal: A physical education major, he is the son of Mike and Susan Welch, both 1973 Ithaca graduates. His father is the Bombers’ head football coach and his sister, Jessica (an all-American women’s lacrosse player), graduated from Ithaca last spring. Welch is also an all-conference wide receiver on Ithaca’s football team.
