Biography

2004: Colon started every game and earned first-team Empire 8 and ECAC all-star honors. He ranked second on the team in tackles (80), tackles for loss (19) and sacks (five). Colon was named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week after Ithaca’s wins over No. 20 Springfield and Cortland. In the Springfield win he matched a career-high with 12 tackles and collected two sacks (Springfield had given up just five sacks entering that game). He made a personal-high four tackles for loss in the win at Norwich and recovered a fumble. His 11 tackles in the “Cortaca Jug” win included a career-best six tackles for loss. Colon picked up 10 tackles in the ECAC postseason win over Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He was named the team’s Honorary Defensive Captain after the Lycoming win and was picked as Ithaca’s Outstanding Lineman following the Norwich victory. He was named to the Empire 8 Presidents’ List following the fall semester.

2002: Colon started all but one game at middle linebacker and finished as Ithaca’s leading tackler. He was a first-team Empire 8 all-star and a second-team selection to Football Gazette’s East Region all-star team. He made 10 tackles to help beat Alfred in his first career start. Colon posted a career-high 13 tackles in the win over unbeaten Springfield, starting a stretch of 57 tackles in five games. He was named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance, which included a sack. He earned Ithaca’s Outstanding Lineman and Honorary Defensive Captain awards after the Brockport game. He collected a career-high 15 tackles, including two for loss, in that game. He blocked an extra point in the Cortland game.

2001: Colon was one of four freshmen to earn a varsity letter. He played in eight regular-season games and all three NCAA playoff contests. In his first collegiate game he recorded a pair of sacks against Alfred. He collected a career-high four tackles in the Utica win, picking up a tackle for loss and a pass break-up as well. One of the hardest hitters on Ithaca’s special teams units, Colon had five of his tackles in that role.

High School: At Proctor High School, Colon was coached by Jerry Fiorini.

Personal: The son of Katheleen and the late Jose Colon, he is a health and physical education major.
