O'Brien is set to enter her first season as a volunteer assistant coach on Kaitlyn Wahila's staff in 2018. She will primarily work with the team's defensive unit.
O'Brien was a decorated four-year standout for the Bombers' field hockey program during her undergraduate career from 2012-to-2015. A lineup fixture from the outset, she started 66 games and appeared in 67 overall during her four years on South Hill. For her career, O'Brien amassed 32 points, tallying 11 goals and adding 10 assists. Defensively, she also registered three defensive saves.
Her career was punctuated by an excellent senior campaign in 2015. She finished her career as a two-time Empire 8 All-Conference honoree, earning Honorable Mention accolades as a junior and First Team selection as a senior. O'Brien also was a NFHCA Second Team All-North Atlantic Region pick during her senior campaign, while she was selected for the Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division III Senior All-Star Game.
Upon graduating in 2016, O'Brien left South Hill to complete her graduate coursework for an M.S. in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in Human Performance. As part of her clinical coursework, she worked with various athletic programs at the University of Hartford.
O'Brien returned to South Hill in 2017 when she served in the Athletic Training Department as a Graduate Athletic Trainer. She worked on the sidelines with the field hockey program extensively last fall, but will transition to the coaching ranks for the upcoming fall.
