ITHACA, N.Y. – The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) officially published its annual list of All-Academic Team selections for the 2020-21 season on March 29. The conference honored 94 wrestlers in this season’s release, marking the third consecutive year that the All-Academic Team topped the 50-mark, and nearly doubling last year’s honorees with the addition of Pitt-Bradford and Penn State Behrend.
Recipients of this honor must have a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher (through the last eligible grading period of the current academic year), or have maintained a 3.30-or-better over the past two completed semesters. Normally, wrestlers must also have competed in three separate events during the season in order to gain consideration, but this year coaches were asked to nominate active members of their programs. Freshmen and transfers that have been enrolled full-time for at least one semester are eligible to receive this honor.
For the third straight year, RIT led all member institutions with 24 honorees. The Tigers boasted nine wrestlers who met the criteria for at least the second time in their careers.
Ithaca produced the second-most recipients in the ECWC with 14 grapplers, including seven repeat award winners. Cortland and Oneonta both earned 11 all-academic nods, while Oswego recorded eight members. Alfred State and Brockport each had seven honorees and the newcomers from Pitt-Bradford and Penn State Behrend earned six awards.
Oneonta’s Michael Savello and Eric Brach were four-time recipients.
