1991 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship

1991
ITHACA 2, Rochester 0

PLYMOUTH, N.H.—The Bombers became just the second team to repeat as Division III national champions, scoring a goal in each half to beat Rochester 2-0. The Yellow Jackets had been the only other program to repeat as champions, winning the first two Division III titles in 1986 and 1987.

Junior Lise Moore opened  the scoring with a goal in the 31st minute assisted by junior Michelle McKay. Just 40 seconds into the second half Ithaca added a second goal when junior Dana Marangi scored her first goal of the season with Jen Guyer picking up the assist.

Four Bombers were named to the all-tournament team: sophomore Megan Collins, junior Lorrie Deyle, sophomore Kris Kaupang and junior Liz Neu. Kaupang and Collins, were named the Final Four’s Offensive and Defensive MVP’s, respectively.

Seniors Beth Greco and Beth Howland combined for the shutout, with Howland making the team’s only three saves. She finished her career with an NCAA playoff goals-against average of 0.15 to set a Division III record.

Ithaca’s run to the championship included three straight 1-0 wins in the NCAA playoffs as the Bombers blanked North Carolina Wesleyan and Trenton State in the regionals and UC-San Diego in the national semifinals. Kaupang assisted on the goal against North Carolina Wesleyan and scored Ithaca’s other two goals.

The Bombers’ win over Trenton State made them the first Division III team to reach the Final Four four years in a row; the win over UC-San Diego made them the first to play in three straight national championship games.
