Biography
2007-08: Petermann qualified for the NCAA National Championship in the javelin throw, where he placed 14th with a throw of 174-2. He Empire 8 Champion in the javelin (197-07) and the discus (126-07) and also placed third in the high jump and fifth in the shot put. He was recognized as Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Meet at the championship, which was hosted by Ithaca. Petermann was NYSCTC champion in the javelin, and placed third in the decathlon and fifth in the discus at the Outdoor Championships. Petermann was also named to the all-ECAC team in both the javelin and decathlon, placing second and sixth, respectively at the Outdoor Championships. During the indoor season, Petermann earned all-state and all-ECAC honors in the pentathlon, placing fifth at the NYSCTC Championships and seventh at the ECAC Championships.
2006-07: Petermann earned all-state honors by placing sixth in the pentathlon at the NYSCTC Indoor Championships with 2,971 points. He was Empire 8 runner-up in the pentathlon. Outdoors, Petermann earned a pair of all-state honors, placing fifth in the javelin throw (52.00m/170-7) and sixth in the decathlon (5,533 points) at the state meet. He finished second amongst Empire 8 competitors in the decathlon. Petermann also finished 11th in the discus (38.35m/125-10) and 22nd in the shot put at the state outdoor meet. Petermann went on to earn all-ECAC honors in the javelin, placing sixth at the ECAC Championships with at throw of 54.21 meters (177-10). Petermann recorded a pair of wins on the year, taking first place in the javelin throw at the Ithaca Open and the Last Chance Invitational. At the New Jersey Invitational, Petermann recorded a pair of top-three finishes, placing second in the javelin and third in the discus (40.02 meters).
2005-06: Petermann placed 12th in the javelin throw at the ECAC Championships with a toss of 50.92 meters (167-1) and recorded a season-best toss of 53.28 meters (174-10) to win the javelin at the Ithaca Tri-Meet. He placed third in the conference and fifth in the state in the javelin with a throw of 50.32 meters (165-1). Petermann also placed fourth in the conference and 10th in the state in the pentathlon with a score of 4,602. His top individual finishes were in the javelin (48.12m/157-10) and the shot put (11.07m/33-½), placing second and third, respectively. Petermann also placed second in the conference and ninth in the state in the shot put at the outdoor championships with a throw of 38.09 meters (125-0). He placed second in the conference and 13th in the state at the indoor championships in the pentathlon with a score of 2,724, and had a top individual finish of second in the shot put (11.58m/38-0).
High School: Petermann was a four-year member of the indoor track and filed team and a three-year member of the outdoor squad at West Morris Mendham High School, earning a total of five varsity letters. He was a first team all-conference selection in the discus and javelin as a senior. He also placed at the state sectional meet and was an all-state qualifier. He was a member of the baseball and football teams.
Personal: A social studies education major, he is the son of Ken and Diane Petermann.
