Biography

2008-09: Brown was again a record-setter as a junior, breaking his own school records in the pole vault during both the indoor season. He set the indoor record at the NTYSCTC Championships, clearing 4.58 meters to finish second in the state. The outdoor record was also broken at the state meet, where Brown vaulted 4.80 meters to win the event and surpass the provisional standard for the NCAA Championships. Brown was the runner-up in the pole vault in the Empire 8 during both seasons. He was named Empire 8 Athlete of the Week following his second-place performance in the pole vault at RIT’s Tiger Invitational. Following the season, Brown was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team.


2007-08: Brown set new school records in the pole vault in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Indoors, he vaulted a record-breaking 4.55 meters at the ECAC Championships to place fourth overall. He also placed fourth at the NYSCTC meet and was Empire 8 runner-up. During the outdoor season, Brown registered a school-record 4.50 meters in winning the event at the Ithaca Open. He was Empire 8 champion in the outdoor pole vault, with a height of 4.45 meters, .40 meters higher than any other competitor. Brown placed eighth at the state meet and ninth at ECAC meet during the outdoor season.


2006-07: Brown set a new school record in the indoor pole vault in just his fourth collegiate meet with a mark of 4.40 meters (14-5 ¼) at the Army Open. Brown earned all-state honors by placing fifth at the NYSCTC indoor championships. He placed second among Empire 8 competitors, earning second-team all-conference status. Outdoors, Brown earned all-ECAC honors by finishing eighth at the ECAC Championship, equaling his personal-best with a mark of 4.40 meters (14-5 ¼). Brown recorded six top-10 finishes in the outdoor season, including a victory at the New Jersey Invitational, helping the Bombers to a third-place team finish. Brown earned Empire 8 Athlete of the Week honors following a second-place finish at the RIT Invitational.

High School: A 2006 graduate of Monmouth Regional High School, Brown was a three-year letter winner in the pole vault as a member of the indoor and outdoor track & field teams. He placed fifth at the group championships. He earned all-league, all-group and all-region honors his senior outdoor season. Brown won the group title and placed seventh at the state championship. He holds both the indoor and outdoor pole vault records at Monmouth.

Personal: A physical therapy major, he is the son of H. Gordon and Mimi Brown.
