Biography
2009-10: A four-time champion at the NYSCTC Indoor Championships and a two-time champion at both the Empire 8 and ECAC Indoor Championships, Orenstein set a pair school records during the indoor season of his junior year. Named the Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and the Track Athlete of the Meet at the NYSCTC Indoor Championships, Orenstein was named Empire 8 Athlete of the Week on Dec. 7. He ran on Ithaca’s victorious 800- and 1,600-meter relays at ECACs, while also earning All-ECAC accolades in the 55 and 200 dashes. Orenstein was a state champion in the 55 and 200 dashes and the 800 and 1,600 relays. Additionally he was the conference champion in the 55 dash and 1,600 relay, while adding a runner-up finish in the 200 dash. His school records came with a 22.22 finish in the 200 and running the third leg of the Bombers’ 1:29.66 800 relay. He also recorded season-bests of 6.52 in the 55 dash, 7.07 in the 60 dash, 35.64 in the 300 dash and 49.44 in the 400 dash, while helping Ithaca to a 3:22.52 finish in the 1,600 relay. Orenstein recorded a pair of All-America finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with fifth-place finishes in the 100 and 200 dashes. Orenstein set a new 200 school record of 21.28 during the season and ran on a duo of school-record setting relays as he helped the Bombers’ to a 41.84 400-relay finish and a time of 1:27.60 in the 800 relay. Orenstein also competed on the season-best 3:18.46 4x400 relay. A two-time NYSCTC champion coupled with a pair of All-NYSCTC accolades, Orenstein was named the state track athlete of the meet. He also claimed Empire 8 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year accolades having claiming three titles at the championships. He clocked season-best performances of 10.71 in the 100 dash and 50.14 in the 400 dash and was thrice named Empire 8 Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season.
2008-09: During the outdoor season, Orenstein qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-meter dash. He placed 17th in the nation in the event, running 22.66. Orenstein also set three indoor records during his sophomore season. He broke the record in the 300 dash with a time of 35.92 at the Cornell Relays, and ran a winning time of 22.64 in the 200 dash to break that record at the NYSCTC Championships. He was also a member of the 800 relay team that ran a school-record 1:31.39 at the indoor state meet. In total, Orenstein earned five all-NYSCTC honors as a sophomore. Indoors, he was a member of the second-place 800 relay team and fourth-place 400 relay team in addition to his state title in the 200. Outdoors, he placed second in the state in both the 100 and 200 dashes. Orenstein was a member of the Empire 8 champion 400 relay squad during the outdoor season, and was Empire 8 runner-up in the indoor 55 dash, 200 dash and 1,600 relay and outdoor 100 dash and 1,600 relay.
2007-08: Orenstein was a seven-time All-NYSCTC runner as a freshman. At the indoor championship, he was a member of the second-place 800-meter relay team that finished in 1:31.96 and the sixth-place 3:28.86 1,600 relay team, while also placing sixth in the 200 dash in 23.08. At the outdoor meet, he was a member of the runner-up 400 relay team that crossed the line in 42.51 and the sixth-place 1,600 relay team that finished in 3:22.98. He also placed fifth in the 100 dash in 11.21 and sixth in the 200 dash in 22.55. The 400 relay team also finished first at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships and placed fifth at the ECAC Outdoor Championships.
High School: Orenstein was a four-year member of the indoor and outdoor track & field teams at Trumbull High School, serving as team captain for both squads. Orenstein also earned two varsity letters as a member of the soccer team.
Personal: A psychology major, he is the son of Jay and Joanne Orenstein. His brother, Julian, is also a member of the Ithaca track & field team.
