Biography
2007-08: Barnes was a state qaulifier in the 1,500-yard freestyle, 400-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle. She placed 12th in the 1,650 freestyle (18:44), 14th in the 400 IM (4:57.76) and 20th in the 500 freestyle (5:28.65).
2006-07: Barnes ranked sixth on the team in points as a sophomore and was a NYSWCAA all-academic selection. Her top individual finish at the state meet was a ninth-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley. Barnes also placed 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 16th in the 200-yard backstroke and was a member of the 14th-place 800-yard freestyle relay team.
2005-06: Barnes was fifth on the team in scoring as a freshman with 192 points. She recorded six top-three finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle, including first-place finishes against Alfred, Division II Bloomsburg, Cortland, Geneseo and Hamilton, and registered a personal-best time of 11:10.06 against Rochester. Barnes recorded three top-three finishes in the 500-yard freestyle, with a first-place finish against Division II Bloomsburg, and recorded top-15 finishes in the 500- (15th) and 1,650-yard (11th) freestyle events at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. She placed fifth at the NYSWCAA Championships in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:20.67 and was 10th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:23.11. Both were personal-best times.
High School: A 2005 graduate of Bradford Area High School, Barnes was coached by Pamela Digel at Bradford Area, and Ray Lease at Bishop Shanahan High School. She gained two letters at each school. Barnes also lettered as a member of the field hockey team at Bishop Shanahan.
Personal: The daughter of James and Caren Barnes, she is a business administration major with a concentration in marketing. Her brother, Steve, was a three-time all-American with the Bombers’ men’s swimming & diving team from 2001-2005.
