Biography

2005-06: Tayrien won the conference and state title in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:41.95, placing him seventh on the Bombers’ top-times list. He earned all-conference and all-state honors in the 1,650-yard freestyle, placing second and fourth, respectively, with a time of 16:44.01. Tayrien also placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.13 and was a member of the seventh-place 800-yard freestyle relay team. He recorded 10 top-three finishes in the 200-, 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events, winning the 200-yard freestyle against Cortland with a time of 1:53.77.

2004-05: For the second straight season, Tayrien earned second-team Empire 8 honors, finishing runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Empire 8 Championships (16:43.05). Tayrien placed only behind All-American teammate Steve Barnes. Tayrien finished fourth in the state meet in that event. Tayrien recorded three other top-four performances at the conference meet, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.02) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:30.66). He was swam with the fourth place 800-yard freestyle relay squad. Tayrien earned a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in Ithaca's win over Cortland.

2003-04: Tayrien earned second-team Empire 8 honors, finishing runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:44.80 at the conference meet. At the Empire 8 meet he also finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:42.41 and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.05. Tayrien placed third in the 500-yard freestyle and fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the state meet. He was 12th in the 200-yard freestyle at the UNYSCSA meet. His time of 16:42.41 in the 1,650-yard freestyle ranks eighth all-time at Ithaca.

High School: A 2003 graduate of Chaparral High School, Tayrien was coached by Jay Kules. He was a four-year letter winner as a member of the swimming & diving team and ranks on the team's top-10 list in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.

Personal: An exercise science major with minors in coaching and health, he is the son of Richard and Cecilia Tayrien.
