2004-05: For the second straight season, Phelps recorded three top-10 performances at the state meet. He placed fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:18.88), seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.04) and 10th in the 400-yard individual medley (4:32.77). Phleps' time in the 1,650-yard freestyle was good for ninth at the state meet. Phelps recorded a second-place finish vs. Alfred in the 1,000-yard freestyle and also swam with second-place 400-yard freestyle relay squads in dual meets with RPI and Union.

2003-04: Phelps placed in the conference’s top 10 in three events with career-best times, including: sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:22.11), seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.61) and 10th in the 400-yard individual medley (4:31.72). At the state meet, he placed ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 12th in the 500-yard freestyle and 15th in the 400-yard I.M. Phelps swam a career-best time of 10:27.30 in the 1,000-yard freestyle vs. Geneseo. He was named to the UNYSCSA all-academic team.

2002-03: Phelps finished ninth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:38.96), 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:51.95) and 12th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.83) at the Empire 8 meet. He finished 19th in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 20th in the 400-yard individual medley at the state meet.

High School: Phelps was a team captain his senior season under coach Darrell Byerts at Webster High School. An academic all-American his senior season, he was also named the team’s most improved swimmer. He earned the Monroe County Scholar-Athlete award in 2001 and 2002.

Personal: The son of Thomas and Annette Phelps, he is a sports information and communication major.
