Biography

2004-05: Escobedo placed in the top seven in five events at the state meet, recording fifth place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.87) and in the 200- and 400-yard medley relays. Escobedo was seventh at states in the 100-yard backstroke (56.30) was also a member of the sixth-place 800-yard freestyle relay squad. Escobedo recorded nine victories on the season, including wins in the 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard freestyle relay in Ithaca's win over Division II Bloomsburg. Escobedo was Ithaca's top performer at the RIT Invitational, recording four top-five finishes, including a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.

2003-04: Escobedo placed in the top 10 in all three events he competed in at the state meet. He finished sixth in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with times of 55.96 and 2:00.23, respectively, and also finished 10th in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.78. He swam a career-best time in the prelims of the 100-yard backstroke (55.64) that ranks 10th all-time at Ithaca, and set another personal mark in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.14) that ranks ninth all-time at Ithaca. At the conference meet Escobedo placed third in the 100-yard backstroke, fifth in the 200-yard backstroke and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle. He was named to the UNYSCSA all-academic team.

2002-03: Escobedo finished his first season with 253.25 points. He placed ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:12.94), 13th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.09) and 15th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.12) at the state meet. In the conference, he finished fifth in the 200-yard backstroke, sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle.

High School: Escobedo swam for coaches Amy Brizzi and George Vinet at Curtis High School, were he holds the school record in eight events.

Personal: A television-radio major, he is the son of Miguel Escobedo Sr. and Marleny Ariza.
