Women's Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week – Katrina Varnum
Karina Varnum and the Bombers sit at 4-1-1 on the season after battling tough opponents in the University of Scranton and No. 14 The College of New Jersey last week. The junior made a season-best nine saves in the team's 0-0 draw with Scranton on Wednesday. She stood tall against the nationally ranked Lions on Saturday, making five saves in a narrow 1-0 defeat, the first of the season for the Bombers. Varnum is tied for first in the conference in shutouts with three while ranking second in the conference in saves with 26.
Volleyball Performer of the Week – Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu
Gabriela Gonzales-Abreu and the Bombers went 2-1 at a strong NYU Invitational over the weekend. They took down No. 5 MIT, 3-1, in the opening round, battling back after dropping the opening set, 25-10. They went on to hand Wentworth Institute of Technology a 3-0 loss on Saturday before falling to an NYU squad receiving votes in the national polls, 3-1. Gonzales-Abreu was a big contributor on the weekend, recording 25 kills and 13 blocks.
Golf Co-Performer of the Week – Helena Winterberg
Helena Winterberg tied for first overall at the Union Fall Invitational over the weekend with a two-round total of 157 (+11) as she shot a 79 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday. She carded three birdies in the tournament.
HONOR ROLL
Brayden Milbrandt helped the Bombers go 3-0 on the week, taking down Morrisville, 1-0, in a midweek battle before dominating Moravian University, 3-0, on the road and Oswego State, 5-2, at home on Sunday afternoon. The keeper collected 10 saves over the span, allowing just two tallies across his three contests. Milbrandt leads the conference in shutouts (5) while sitting third in goals against average (0.63).
Gabriel Robinson came alive in a big way, helping the Bombers take down Oswego State, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. The rookie scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in the contest. The first came in the 67th minute and eventually proved to be the game-winner. He also scored the game's final goal of the day, converting a penalty kick in the 79th minute. He finished the day with four points on two goals. He has played in all eight contests in his first season.
Sadie Ruiz scored a pair of goals to open the week for Ithaca in a 4-0 victory over Wilkes on Wednesday evening. With the score 2-0 early in the third quarter, Ruiz put the contest out of reach with her first goal in the 42nd minute and added another in the 55th minute.
Michael Reed played just over a quarter of action in Ithaca's 76-6 victory against Hilbert on Saturday and threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns on 12-of-14 attempts. He completed first quarter touchdown passes of 11, 35 and 24 yards.
